Athena Island

Athena Island (www.athena-island.co.uk) is an interactive online platform designed to inspire girls in Years 7–9 to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Launching in 2025, the website creates a playful, game-like environment that introduces STEM subjects in an engaging and accessible way.

I led the creative development from start to finish, producing the initial proposal, sketches, logo and iconography, wireframes, and final illustrations. The design style is vibrant, hand-drawn, and full of personality, combining bright colours, playful typography, and dynamic character-led illustrations to make STEM subjects approachable and fun. I focused on creating a visual language that felt energetic and imaginative while remaining clear and easy to navigate, helping younger users engage intuitively with the platform.

The project was carefully tailored to the audience: each illustration and interactive element was designed to capture attention, encourage exploration, and make learning feel like play. By using consistent, friendly visuals and intuitive navigation, the platform successfully motivates students to explore global issues and discover career paths that inspire them. The result is a visually distinctive, highly engaging educational resource that balances creative design with strategic educational objectives, ensuring both appeal and effectiveness for its target audience.
